Do Something that Scares You
A couple of weeks ago I spent the week in Mexico reliving my childhood with my children we did all the fun things, but what my kids were looking forward to the most did not happen until the very last day when they got to fly in my dad’s plane. They have been dying to go on this plane since they first heard of it, and they finally got their chance.
Now, my dad got this plane when I was in High School, I believe, so I have flown in it quite a few times, and I thought nothing of it. But there were a few things I did not think about when I was flying in it. One was the fact that we were living in Mexico… so let’s just say that my dad didn’t go to an official pilot training program.
When I was young, another thing that I did not think about was the simple physics of “What goes up, must come down.” But as an adult, with my children out of arms reach, this principle suddenly took on a whole new meaning.
So while being self-taught is an amazing thing in a lot of areas of life, and my dad has taken hundreds of flights without any incident, as the time approached, let’s just say I panicked a little inside. But I did not let it get to me, and I trusted both my gut, and my dad that everything would be OK.
And guess what? It was!
My children had an AMAZING experience that they will not soon forget. They were able to bond with their grandpa in a way few kids get to, and I was able to do something that scared me.
So this is my Fun Friday challenge to you this weekend. Do something that scares you. It does not have to be as extreme as sending your kids in a plane with a self-taught pilot, but it needs to be something. Reach out to someone who intimidates you and ask them to lunch. Take a class you have been wanting to take. Try a new kind of food. But do something!
I would love to hear what you are trying! Let me know by using the hashtag #createjoychallenge on Instagram.
