16 Minute "Mermaid" Pasta - Fun Friday

16 Minute "Mermaid" Pasta - Fun Friday

Hello hello! Happy fun Friday! I’m excited to finally share our famous “mermaid pasta” with all of you!

This post is going to be a little different so I apologize in advance. I had every intention of having my kids help with dinner for #funfriday but Daddy (who’s literally never home due to his high demands of his masters program, work, and church obligations) anyway, Daddy finally graduated with his Masters this week and took a few days off work!! We’re all excited over here and don’t even know what to do with all of his spare time. With that being said, when I asked my kids to come help with dinner, every single one of them turned their noses up at me and said, “no thanks!” and went back to playing outside with Dad. So…… I decided i’d make our “mermaid pasta” a fancy one. I set the table, placemats, silverware (ok it’s not super fancy over here. Every plate, cup, bowl, etc is plastic… kids will do that to ya!) anyway, I put dinner in a casserole dish and everything! Best part about the whole experience? nobody even cared!!! It was hilarious!

We call this pasta “mermaid pasta” because when my oldest daughter was younger, she wouldn’t eat a dang thing. We would make up special names or little things to get her to actually eat food. The things my husband and I came up with, I tell ya, pretty amazing! This pasta can be made with any noodle you want but we use shells because “its super special and its all mermaids eat! You HAVE to try it if you want to be like a beautiful mermaid!”. Trust me, it worked every time haha. On we go!

These are all the ingredients you need. We use #Ragu sauce because my kids like it best. When I want to take longer, I just make homemade sauce, but don’t complicate your life. Just buy the jar!

Before you “doctor up” your sauce, get some water boiling and then toss in your noodles of choice. (shells= mermaid food :) )

When you make the sauce, grab a “family size” bottle of you wont have enough sauce and your pasta will be sticky and dry. Ok, put the sauce in a sauce pan, add about 1/2 cup of cream, a dash or salt and pepper, and maybe a tbsp of sugar. Stir it up on low heat.

This deliciousness is what your sauce will begin to look like. Keep up the good work!

Once it’s all combined, it’ll look like an orange sauce of goodness. Keep heat on low.

Add about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese to your sauce and mix well. then let it sit till the pasta is cooked.

This is what i did in while waiting for the pasta. So fancy, I know, please hold the applause :D I also tossed up a salad to go with the pasta which nobody but myself ate (throws hands up in the air).

Pasta is cooked! Did I mention it’s a whole box of pasta? Yes, a whole box. Add the sauce to the pasta and combine.

Add your mixed sauce and pasta “mermaid pasta” into a casserole dish or even a bowl or just serve it out of the pot. Make life easy! Sprinkle some more parmesan on top and make it look like “mermaids special sprinkles” and you got yourself and lovely dinner that everyone (trust me) will eat!

There you have it! Literally the easiest meal and it only takes 16 minutes! If you don’t have any girls (I have 2 boys, one who’s 5 and despises all things girly, I usually tell him Aquaman eats the seashell pasta to make him big and strong. It takes him a bit to come around but he eventually gives in :)

Enjoy!
